A Noah update!

It’s been a long time since I gave an update on my little man!

Have I mentioned that he is the LIGHT OF MY LIFE?!?!?! Seriously. I couldn’t possibly love anything more than I love him.

School:

We (reluctantly) changed preschools at the start of this school year. He has always gone to our church’s preschool and we loved it there. The main issue we had was that they operated off the county school system schedule and were closed during summer and all the other school holidays. It was very inconvenient for us since we both work full time. I had friends and family that could keep Noah for me when school was closed, but I hated always feeling like I was burdening someone else with my problems. So we made the decision to switch schools. He is now attending the school that his three older cousins all attended and honestly, I couldn’t be happier. He is learning to eat new foods because the school serves a hot lunch to the kids (his previous school didn’t). He is learning so much. Just the other night, he was in the bathtub and recited the Pledge of Allegiance perfectly, I didn’t even know they were working on that! I feel like his new school is really investing in him and getting him ready for Kindergarten in ways that his other school didn’t. All of his teachers have really been working hard with us to get Noah completely potty trained as well! (More on that below!)

Potty training:

Two of the scariest words in the dictionary. Ha! I finally feel like I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. This has been the longest, most tedious process in my parenting journey so far! So back in February (his 3rd birthday), we ditched the diapers/pull-ups and went to underwear and only wearing pull-ups at night/nap. The problem we ran in to was that his previous school’s policy was once they had two accidents, they were put in a pull-up for the rest of the day. This obviously caused major issues in my potty training plan. So for the rest of the school year, that’s what we did. Honestly, I think that’s the main reason that it took us so long to get him potty trained. We didn’t have the support we needed from the people that cared for him for the majority of the day. That’s another reason we switched preschools. Through the summer, Noah stayed with a friend of mine sometimes and my mother-in-law sometimes. He started using the potty more and was peeing in the potty most of the time, but would NOT poop in the potty at all. Once he started preschool (at the new school), I had a few talks with his teacher about his potty history and the issues we were currently having. She told me that if he had 10 accidents a day, they would just keep working with him and KEEP HIM IN UNDERWEAR no matter what. Hallelujah!

Noah loves Jake and the Neverland Pirates and had been eyeing a toy named Bucky from Target for the longest time. We always told him that once he pooped in the potty, we would buy Bucky for him. His teacher suggested that we go ahead and buy Bucky, but sit him out of Noah’s reach but in eyesight, to be more enticing. So we bought Bucky, sat him on the top of the fridge, and explained to Noah that he could play with him once he pooped in the potty. It wasn’t long after that that one night Noah said out of the blue that he needed to go poop! We sat him on the potty, let him watch a show on the iPad and BOOM! Haha! It was glorious. We all jumped and screamed and celebrated and then we all played with Bucky! Since then, he has pooped in the potty several more times and understands now when he needs to go! He still has accidents sometimes, but for the most part I’d say we are potty trained! :):):):)

Becoming a big brother:

I will be the first to tell you that Noah is a Momma’s baby. I made him that way and I have no shame! He is my heart and I spoil the dickens out of him and don’t discipline him as much as I should. :) So I knew it would be a BIG adjustment for him to have to share me. Luckily, pregnancies last 9 months so we will have plenty of time to warm up to the idea of a little brother. He wasn’t too thrilled with the idea at first, but these days he talks about Cason like he’s already here with us! I’m sure he will be less likely to be so happy about it once Cason actually gets here, but for now he’s starting to like the idea of baby brother! This past Sunday, his Sunday school teacher was helping him draw a picture of his family and Noah made the teacher draw Cason in my belly!

Sleep:

The kid loves to sleep. I don’t know where he gets that from…. Right now, we usually put him in his bed at 7:30pm (I know it’s super early compared to most kids his age, but it’s what works for us!) and let him watch tv for about an hour and a half. He never comes out of his room once we put him to bed. He sleeps with a lamp on, so a lot of times he will get up and play with some toys for a while and then get back in bed. He still sleeps with his brown blankey and I don’t see that going away for a long time. We have had no problems with his big boy bed. I can’t believe he hasn’t ever fallen out. But he has requested a few times to sleep on the floor, so we oblige! He still naps from about noon-3 or 4ish on the weekends and takes a 2 hour nap during the week at school. He also still sucks his thumb when he sleeps.

Eating:

He is the world’s pickiest eater. And I was the exact same way when I was little so I can’t blame him! He loves chicken nuggets (some days), rice and beans, crackers, pretzels, “Yucky Charms”, and any kind of fruit or applesauce/yogurt. Other than that, you are lucky if you can get him to even try it. He tells me all the time that his teacher makes him try his lunch at school which THRILLS me because I know it’s not things he normally eats. I’m glad he at least likes fruit, though.

What he’s in to:

He loves to watch tv, so we have several shows that he likes right now. Jake and the Neverland Pirates, Paw Patrol, Doc McStuffins, Chuggington, Handy Manny, Dora, I think that may be it. His favorite toy to play with would either be his remote control Lightning McQueen or his train tracks/trains. He’s also been really into puzzles lately. This could also be up in the potty training section, but another trick that helped us was once he had an accident, we would lock up every.single.toy. in the playroom. Once he successfully used the potty, he could pick out a toy to play with. If he had another accident, any toys he had out would go back in the playroom to be locked up. Worked like a charm!

He also reallllly loves cutting the grass with his Daddy and riding his powerwheel out back.

27 weeks

SONY DSC

How far along? 27 weeks, 2 days

Total weight gain/loss: Up 20 lbs. Hubba hubba.

Maternity clothes: Most definitely. I’ve already had to retire a few maternity shirts that are now too short.

Stretch marks: Same ones

Sleep: Horrible. If I’m not waking up to pee, I’m waking up hungry. And then there are times that I just can’t sleep. Momsomnia.

Best moment this week: I had a great doctor’s appt this past week. I’m now going every TWO WEEKS! Eeeek!

Movement: I can basically feel everything now. Once this week, I could feel his foot move from the top of my belly all the way to the bottom. He must be practicing his stretches!

Food cravings/aversions: Crystal Light. I’ve been so thirsty lately, which irritates me because that just means more trips to the bathroom.

Gender: Boy!

Labor signs: Nope

Belly button in or out: I’m not going to officially say it’s out yet, but usually by the end of the day it’s poking out a little.

What I miss: NOT PEEING 574 TIMES A DAY.

What I am looking forward to: Scheduling our 4D ultrasound soon

Weekly wisdom: It’s ok to say no.

Milestone: Well I’m on maternity leave from the praise team. I think I made it further when I was pregnant with Noah, but this time around I’m just in a lot more pain. I’m very sway-backed anyway, so add 20 pounds to my stomach and you can imagine how awesome that feels. I’m having a lot of lower back pain and restless legs, which I’m assuming is due to the fact that little one is sitting on some nerves. So I’m having to take a break from a few things to ensure the health of Mommy and Cason!

26 weeks

SONY DSC

How far along? 26 weeks, 3 days

Total weight gain/loss: Up 18 lbs. Yikes! I feel like he’s really grown in the past week!

Maternity clothes: Um yeah!

Stretch marks: Same ones

Sleep: Good for the most part. We had a crazy week…a concert, then a trip to the beach. I got my sleep schedule all off and didn’t go to bed until 10:30pm some nights! I’m living on the edge now. :)

Best moment this week: We had a great weekend in Gulf Shores! Noah had so much fun playing on the beach.

Movement: I’m pretty sure he is head down now. I can feel little feet kicking on the top of my stomach!

Food cravings/aversions: Any kind of Crystal Light. I also craved fried chicken this weekend, which is weird. The smell has been making me gag for most of my pregnancy.

Gender: Boy!

Labor signs: Nope

Belly button in or out: In when I’m sitting, out when I stand up!

What I miss: Cold turkey. I can’t wait to eat some Subway again!

What I am looking forward to: Doctor’s appt tomorrow!

Weekly wisdom: Long car rides are no fun when you are 26 weeks!

Milestone: Viability! Yay!

25 weeks

SONY DSC

How far along? 25 weeks, 2 days

Total weight gain/loss: Up 16 lbs.

Maternity clothes: All the time

Stretch marks: Same ones

Sleep: Still waking up every 2 hours or so to go potty, but other than that the sleep has been great!

Best moment this week: Finally getting some rest this past weekend. I had such a busy week, I didn’t know if I was going to make it or not!

Movement: He’s kicking as I type! He moves a lot throughout the day, but I know I can always count on him to have a dance party as soon as I crawl into bed for the night.

Food cravings/aversions: Still loving coffee this week. And Crystal Light’s strawberry orange banana flavor. Still HATE the smell of bbq.

Gender: Boy!

Labor signs: Nope

Belly button in or out: It’s weird. It is poking out from the inside, but the outer edges are still in? Make sense?

What I miss: More caffeine. I’m already pushing my limits with it… and a #5, no veggies from Jimmy John’s! Mmmmm…

What I am looking forward to: We have a beach trip in our near future and I can’t WAIT!

Weekly wisdom: I have made a habit of having a warm bath just about every night now. It really helps with my lower back pain that I get towards the end of the day.

Milestone: Making more progress in Cason’s room. I can’t wait for it to be finished.

How far along? 24 weeks, 2 days

Total weight gain/loss: Up 14 lbs.

Maternity clothes: I can wear some non-maternity dresses, but that’s about it.

Stretch marks: Same ones, but I’m starting to be itchy so I’m sure more are forming.

Sleep: Ok. For the past week or so, I have been waking up about every 1.5-2 hours to pee!

Best moment this week: A great doctor’s appt this past week. Everything is looking good!

Movement: All the time. His kicks are so strong now that they startle me sometimes!

Food cravings/aversions: I’m loving coffee this week.

Gender: Boy!

Labor signs: Nothing this week

Belly button in or out: Flat. It really grosses me out. Bad.

What I miss: Having balance. I get dizzy a lot. My center of gravity is all off.

What I am looking forward to: I’m just enjoying this stage of pregnancy right now. Of course I’m looking forward to seeing our sweet boy, but I’m also trying to soak in this pregnancy.

Weekly wisdom: Don’t wear 5 inch heels when you are 6 months pregnant. Everyone will yell at you. :) (Also not very smart when you have no balance!)

Milestone: 6 months preggy!

23 weeks

I really like taking my pictures outside, but it has been so dang humid here lately. As soon as we walk outside, the camera lens fogs up! So Cason’s room will have to do.

How far along? 23 weeks, 2 days

Total weight gain/loss: Up 13 lbs.

Maternity clothes: All the time

Stretch marks: Same ones

Sleep: Great! I still sleep somewhat on my belly, which I know I shouldn’t do. But that’s the most comfortable position!

Best moment this week: This week I felt Cason turn a flip in my belly! I love that he’s getting so big.

Movement: All the time now and I LOVE it. The movement is my favorite thing about being pregnant.

Food cravings/aversions: Nectarines and I started drinking coffee again this week. I’ve missed it! I still can’t stand the smell of bbq.

Gender: Boy!

Labor signs: A few BH contractions here and there, but they haven’t been bad.

Belly button in or out: Flat

What I miss: Being able to breath! And it’s only going to get worse from here.

What I am looking forward to: I have a doctor’s appt today. And we started going through newborn clothes this weekend…it’s getting more real that we are having a baby soon!

Weekly wisdom: You really should drink lots of water. I am horrible at it, but it really does make you feel better.

Milestone: More progress in Cason’s room, clothes getting washed and ready to go, it’s starting to get REAL folks! :)

Maternity clothes: Definitely

Stretch marks: Same ones

Sleep: Still really good. I can’t believe the insomnia hasn’t set in yet!

Best moment this week: Finally finding a travel system that I like.

Movement: We are now having dance parties in the tummy. Daddy got to feel some strong kicks last night. Cason always moves the most when I first lay down at night.

Food cravings/aversions: Fruit, pizza, and new this week…bologna!

Gender: Boy!

Labor signs: Nothing this week

Belly button in or out: Gross

What I miss: Little (to me) boobs

What I am looking forward to: Getting Cason’s room finished. I’m not very motivated right now to do anything in there for some reason?

Weekly wisdom: I’m fresh out.

Milestone: We have moved the kids to a different preschool that is open all year long (instead of operating off the county’s school schedule)! This is a big YAY for me!

And speaking of school, today was Noah’s first day at his new school!
