Cradle cap SUCKS!

I thought Noah's cradle cap was getting better....then it got worse.

This was yesterday before his bath...

Isn't that pitiful?? Poor baby! This morning when I got to work, my Dad said that he thought Noah's face was swollen. I didn't really notice because I see him all the time. And then when April got to work she said the same thing. So back to the doctor we went!

You can't really see how bad it is in this picture. He's so cute!

The pediatrician said that this was the worst case of cradle cap she had EVER seen and kept calling it "very impressive". We have to put hydrocortisone ointment and Aquaphor on his face and neck three times a day until it gets better. If it's not better by Thursday or if it gets worse, we have to go back to the doctor and they will switch him from Enfamil Gentlease to a MEGA expensive allergy resistant formula (Nutrasomething). I REALLY hope it doesn't come to that...Gentlease is expensive enough thanks!

Oh...and last week (exactly a week ago) Noah weighed 10 lb 2 oz. Want to know how much that little piggy weighs a week later? 10 lb 13 oz!!! What a little porker!

Now to totally change the subject-a WW update! Last week I lost 3 pounds! Bringing me to a grand total of.......drum roll please........11 pounds lost! YAY! 31 pounds to go!

Hi Allison~
I was reading about the cradle cap and poor Noah!!!

I had the same experience with my daughter Payton. She was switched and within a week she was perfectly fine!

I know nutramagin(sp) is expensive but it truly works!

I will be praying for you and Noah! It is not a fun thing to be Experiencing!!

Is it Nutramigen? There is also Alimentum, I believe, that is another formula they can use that is for babies who show allergy issues. Our son had issues with dairy and I was exclusively breastfeeding but the doctor gave us a couple of sample cans just in case we decided to supplement instead of me going off of everything except fruits, veggies, turkey, and rice products. Tough diet but I lost 16 pounds in about 3 weeks though! Anyway, ask about Alimentum and check on pricing and see if the pediatrician can get you some sample cans to help out.

I found your blog off another blog listing sidebar. Let me make a suggestion.

Enfamil makes Nutramagin and Similiac makes Alimentium (spellings could be off a bit).
Both are hypoallergenic and easy to digest, these formulas are similiar just different companies make them.

My son was on Alimentium, it worked great! $27 per can that lasted 2-3 days... until my human resource person at work called our health insurance provider to see if the expense was covered and it was! 100% covered until my son was one year of age... called your medical insurance provider on the back of your card and ask if ENFERAL FORMULAS for a newborn/infant under one year of age is covered.

If so then ask what is needed and what steps do you need to take to get this covered for Noah.

For us we needed the pediatrician to write a perscription for the formula. It needs to be clear and say how much he is drinking and if it's to be for powdered or ready to feed formula. We opted for powder as it was easier to travel with the podwer and a bottle of water when out and about. It was provided up until his first birthday without even a co-payment.
We are not rich but very much middle class and it was fully covered, I was shocked but the insurance every month refilled our formula no questions asked. We do have a fancy expensive Blue Cross coverage at my job but my point is call and ask...

Similiac Alimentium worked well for my son. I wish you the best with Noah.

Also have you looking into the bath and creams bu Mustela, sold at BRU and other online stores.
Mustela has a newborn/infant foam shampoo for cradle cap that is super gentle. YUP we use these products still they run about $10 - $15 a bottle but last a LOOOOONNNNGGG time. I am a super satisfied customer, google Mustela foam shampoo for cradle cap.

Any other questions feel free to contact me privately at cappadonas@comcast.net.

Best of luck,
Stacy

Just a thought and I apologize for leaving unsolicited advice as a first-time commenter, but my friend's baby had cradle cap that looked JUST like that. She checked Baby 411 and it said it could be a milk allergy. She called her ped, who said to try taking all milk out of her diet (she was nursing at the time). It cleared up! So maybe a soy formula would clear it up and be a cheaper alternative to the really expensive formula? He is adorable, by the way!

Allison,
Just one more comment to help you out, the rash on his skin looks like eczema, treat it with the cortizone cream.

Stay away from lotions with cetyl alcohol, they dry the skin making it worse!

Cradle cap and eczema often go had in hand...

Stay strong and keep your chin up.
