Happy Due Date Noah!

Today was Noah's original due date! I can't believe how much our lives have changed in just a matter of days! I never knew I could love someone so much that I only just met.

I'm trying to keep up with the updates, but I just feel like I never have time to blog anymore! And when I do have time, I just want to sleep! But I promise, I'll eventually catch up!

Breastfeeding started out wonderfully. He was a good nurser and we fell into a great pattern. And then the last night we were in the hospital, they checked his weight and he was right on the edge of losing too much weight. He also wanted to nurse for at least 30 minutes on each side, then the nurses wanted me to pump for 15 minutes after that. AND he needed to be nursed every two hours. He was just so hungry and I wasn't producing enough to satisfy him...plus all the feeding/pumping was just overwhelming me. So we started giving him formula and saw an immediate difference. He drank his bottle in 15 minutes, then slept for three hours. It was heaven! Since then, I've pumped a few times and fed him that plus formula but he always spits up a LOT of it. So now we are just giving him formula. I HIGHLY respect any woman who can breastfeed. I wish I could do it. But to me, it was so stressful and emotionally/physically exhausting! We just got back from the doctor to check his weight and he has gained 4 ounces since we left the hospital so I really feel like we made the right decision for Noah.

Recovery for me has been a little more difficult than I expected. You don't realize how you use EVERY muscle in your body to push. And the past few days, I feel like I have just been hit by a truck! My arms are really sore from holding my legs and my entire back just aches and aches. And since I'm not breastfeeding and my milk came in yesterday, my boobs hurt like the DEVIL!! They are so engorged and there is nothing I can do but tough it out until it passes. But you better believe I would do it all again in a heartbeat for my precious baby boy!

I'm working on a picture post from Noah's birthday so stay tuned for that!

I had issues with breastfeeding, also. Jackson refused to latch on and I swear he had this huge aversion to my boobs, haha. I remember my hands had welts on them from me squeezing the birthing bars so hard and my arms ached for days. It's crazy what your body goes through to deliver a baby. Good luck with your new little boy :)

I'm sorry breastfeeding didn't work out for you. But formula feeding is much easier! I hope you continue to get plenty of rest when you can. He is absolutely beautiful!

Hey Allison! I've been a lurker for a while =) Congrats on the birth of your adorable little boy!! I tried to breastfeed my little ones and just was not comfortable with it. When my milk started to come in I put cold cabbage leaves in a tight sports bra and it helped immediately! I thought it sounded nuts but it really does help.

Congrats again - being a mommy is truly the greatest blessing!

I have been a lurker for a while too, but wanted to come out and tell you a few tips to help with the engorged feeling. I totally second the cabbage leaves...works amazing. Also I bought the little kids soft ice packs from the dollar store and put them in the fridge, then slip them in a sports bra. They hold the cold for a good long while and that helped me sooo much. If it is unbearable, take a hot shower...it will allow you to relieve a little of the pressure and get some relief, but don't over stimulate and get a full let down. Don't worry though...it only lasts a few days :) Noah is just precious!! Congrats!!!
