Whew, what a day

Yesterday, my beautiful new car went from this:

new car

To this:

Let me explain.

April, Noah and I were heading to Wing’s to get some lunch. We weren’t two miles from the office. We were in the left lane and a Grand Cherokee was up ahead of us. As we were approaching the stop light (that was green), the GC got in the right lane (not using a blinker) like she was going to turn right at the light. Then all of a sudden, from the RIGHT LANE, she turns LEFT. Since I was behind her, as soon as she turned LEFT I T-boned her into her driver’s side door. Her window immediately smashed and when I hit her, it threw her vehicle into the stop light pole. She wasn’t wearing her seatbelt, so when she hit the pole, she also hit her head on her steering wheel REALLY hard. And that knocked her unconscious.

After it all happened, Noah started screaming so I jumped into the back of the Expedition to get to him. He was fine, just scared. I looked over at the other vehicle and the girl was passed out. Scary! April, who was in the passenger seat of our car, had to basically kick her door open. She got out and went to check on the girl. She called 911 and NOBODY answered!! But they were eventually reached. The paramedics/firemen/policemen had to use the Jaws of Life to get the girl out of her car. She had to have a neck brace put on and had to be tied down to a gurney.

THANK YOU JESUS we were all ok. I have a bad mark from my seatbelt and we are all very sore but thankfully that’s the extent of our injuries. We took Noah to his pediatrician just to get him checked out and the doctor said that he was fine.

I’m just so very thankful that Jesus was watching over my family AND that we were in the Expedition instead of my old Murano.

And before I forget, my little monkey got weighed at the doctor too!

6-30-10

That little chunk weighs 18 lb 3 oz! Can you believe that?!?

And then we had to go buy Noah a new carseat….not because his was damaged but because if you are in a collision of any kind, it voids the warranty on the seat AND it can affect it’s safety. Did you know that? I didn’t until about a year ago! This is what we got:

oh

I wanted to get him another pumpkin seat because they are just so convenient when taking Noah into a restaurant, or when he falls asleep in the car you can just pick the seat up and take him inside, etc. BUT I knew it wouldn’t be long before he outgrew a pumpkin seat too. SO we opted for a convertible seat that he could grow into. The only problem is that it is SO difficult to move! It’s big and bulky and you have to take the cover off the bottom to buckle the seatbelt through it. My friend Brooke watches Noah three days a week for me now and I had to move the seat into her car for the first time today…..IT SUCKS!!!!! And since Noah is not quite ready to sit in a highchair at a restaurant, we have to take his Bumbo in with us so he has a place to sit.

SO that was my day yesterday. At this point, I am just waiting for the police report to get ready (which can take up to 7 days) and THEN I can START getting estimates on my car and try to get a rental car lined up.

The moral of the story?

PAY. A. TTENTION!!!!!

Yikes, what a day. I am so glad everyone is okay. I didn't know that about carseats so thanks for sharing!

Good luck with everything, I know getting a car fixed/dealing with insurance can be a pain!

I am a lurker, but I love your blog! I work for an insurance company and wanted to make sure you know, a lot of times the insurance will pay for the new carseat. Make sure you tell them you had one in your car during the accident and you had to replace it. :)
