So I wasn't going to post the details of my doctor visit yesterday, but after I told April the story she deemed it blog worthy so here you go! Normally when I call my doctor's office with a question or problem, I leave a message with the receptionist for one of my doctor's nurses. Yesterday when I called and explained my pain to the receptionist, she immediately put me through to a nurse. That freaked my freak! I talked to the nurse and explained my pain again. She said that my doctor wasn't in the office that morning (there are several other doctors that work in the same practice) and if I didn't want to wait until that afternoon when he got there, I could either see another one of the doctors there or go to the emergency room. I told her that I could wait to see my doctor until that afternoon but I REALLY wanted to come in then to hear the heartbeat and make sure little bean was ok. So she told me come on in.
I hate when blog posts are one big paragraph, so I'm breaking it up! Anyway, I assumed that when I got there, they would shuffle me into a back room, listen to the baby and I'd be out the door in 10-15 minutes. Ha. Ha. Ha. One thing I learned is that you NEVER say the words 'abdominal pain' to an OB unless you want to be there for HOURS. So I was eventually put into a room after the nurse got my blood pressure, weight and urine sample. Fun stuff. I waited and waited and waited. Then FINALLY I heard a knock on the door. YAY! (I assumed a nurse would be using the doppler on me.....wrong!) A male student doctor walked into the room. Umm...ok. He was really nice and REALLY nervous. So I explained to him the kind of pain I was experiencing....three times....and then he asked me to lay back so he could use the doppler and find the heartbeat. I laid back and he put the doppler on my belly....and PUSHED the thing on me. We heard the heartbeat for a millasecond but little bean doesn't like being pushed on so he/she swam to the other side really quickly! So he moved the doppler to the other side and PUSHED it on me again! Stupid! Anyway, he got a clear heartbeat and was able to count it. Yay for him.
He told me that he was pretty sure that I was just experiencing round ligament pain but he wanted to go check with Doctor M first just to make sure. So he left the room. Waiting...waiting...in walks Doctor M and Student Doctor. Doctor M asked me to explain the pain...again. Now remember that these men are not my normal doctors. I've NEVER seen them before in my life. Then Doctor M says......."Well, I'd like to examine you. Just to make sure you aren't dilating." ............Why me? WHY ME??? So I tell myself that this is the best thing for my little bean and tell him ok. I mean, he's a doctor right?
So they leave so I could get naked. The door opens back up....and in walks Doctor M AND Student Doctor and a female nurse....WAAAIT just a minute...HE isn't going to...oh my GOD he is.......that's right-the STUDENT DOCTOR wanted some experience finding a cervix. Just my freakin luck. And homeboy was so nervous I seriously thought for a second that he had never even SEEN a vagina before. So while Student Doctor was looking for my cervix, Doctor M was being very nice and trying his very best to think of any question he could think of to make small talk with me to keep my mind off the teenager in my vagina. What felt like 5 minutes went by and Doctor M says in a not-so-nice tone to Student Doctor, "Have you found the cervix YET?" Student Doctor said, "I think I may have found the outside of it." Doctor M ever so politely apologized to me and PUSHED Student Doctor out of the way and immediately found my cervix and said, "Ooo great, all closed up!" Ok, now that I'm traumatized....just lovely. So all in all it was just round ligament pain. Yippee.

Oh wow! LOL. That is hilarious! I mean, not for you, but it's a funny story for you to tell!
And I hate to say, but it doesn't get any better... The day I had Vivi Grace, there was a whole room full of people in there and one of the nursing students checked me so she could feel her first cervix. She found it quick though, thank God! LOL. Glad to hear everything is ok!!!
o my goodness! That's terrible! & a great reason to refuse student doctors! Poor girl! (sorry for all the exclamation points, but your post deserved them... ick).
Oh my gosh, that is so not cool, but it's definitely one for the books! So glad all is well!!
OMGOSH! HAHAHAHAHAHA That is so awful! I would have been so uncomfortable! What a nice woman you are to not "accidently" kick the student in the face! Glad you are doing well and baby looks good!
It's much better when you tell it WITH the hand motions!
LOL! The hand motions really do add a great touch! (No pun intended)
Ugh, that sounds horrifying. Im still dreading that first cervix check..
Glad to hear all is well, though! And you find out the sex SO soon!
I am still laughing...That was too funny although at the time probably wasn't.
Thanks for the laugh tonight...Stop by and visit my new Christmas blog. There will be a drawing on October 1st for a GREAT prize...all you have to do is leave a comment..http://grammyababychangeseverything.blogspot.com
