Doctor visit continued...

So I wasn't going to post the details of my doctor visit yesterday, but after I told April the story she deemed it blog worthy so here you go! Normally when I call my doctor's office with a question or problem, I leave a message with the receptionist for one of my doctor's nurses. Yesterday when I called and explained my pain to the receptionist, she immediately put me through to a nurse. That freaked my freak! I talked to the nurse and explained my pain again. She said that my doctor wasn't in the office that morning (there are several other doctors that work in the same practice) and if I didn't want to wait until that afternoon when he got there, I could either see another one of the doctors there or go to the emergency room. I told her that I could wait to see my doctor until that afternoon but I REALLY wanted to come in then to hear the heartbeat and make sure little bean was ok. So she told me come on in.

I hate when blog posts are one big paragraph, so I'm breaking it up! Anyway, I assumed that when I got there, they would shuffle me into a back room, listen to the baby and I'd be out the door in 10-15 minutes. Ha. Ha. Ha. One thing I learned is that you NEVER say the words 'abdominal pain' to an OB unless you want to be there for HOURS. So I was eventually put into a room after the nurse got my blood pressure, weight and urine sample. Fun stuff. I waited and waited and waited. Then FINALLY I heard a knock on the door. YAY! (I assumed a nurse would be using the doppler on me.....wrong!) A male student doctor walked into the room. Umm...ok. He was really nice and REALLY nervous. So I explained to him the kind of pain I was experiencing....three times....and then he asked me to lay back so he could use the doppler and find the heartbeat. I laid back and he put the doppler on my belly....and PUSHED the thing on me. We heard the heartbeat for a millasecond but little bean doesn't like being pushed on so he/she swam to the other side really quickly! So he moved the doppler to the other side and PUSHED it on me again! Stupid! Anyway, he got a clear heartbeat and was able to count it. Yay for him.

He told me that he was pretty sure that I was just experiencing round ligament pain but he wanted to go check with Doctor M first just to make sure. So he left the room. Waiting...waiting...in walks Doctor M and Student Doctor. Doctor M asked me to explain the pain...again. Now remember that these men are not my normal doctors. I've NEVER seen them before in my life. Then Doctor M says......."Well, I'd like to examine you. Just to make sure you aren't dilating." ............Why me? WHY ME??? So I tell myself that this is the best thing for my little bean and tell him ok. I mean, he's a doctor right?

So they leave so I could get naked. The door opens back up....and in walks Doctor M AND Student Doctor and a female nurse....WAAAIT just a minute...HE isn't going to...oh my GOD he is.......that's right-the STUDENT DOCTOR wanted some experience finding a cervix. Just my freakin luck. And homeboy was so nervous I seriously thought for a second that he had never even SEEN a vagina before. So while Student Doctor was looking for my cervix, Doctor M was being very nice and trying his very best to think of any question he could think of to make small talk with me to keep my mind off the teenager in my vagina. What felt like 5 minutes went by and Doctor M says in a not-so-nice tone to Student Doctor, "Have you found the cervix YET?" Student Doctor said, "I think I may have found the outside of it." Doctor M ever so politely apologized to me and PUSHED Student Doctor out of the way and immediately found my cervix and said, "Ooo great, all closed up!" Ok, now that I'm traumatized....just lovely. So all in all it was just round ligament pain. Yippee.

Friday night plus a doctor visit

Soooo here we go. It took Brad and I five hours to get to Atlanta Friday. Normally it only takes around three but there was so much traffic because of everyone heading that way. We finally pulled into the parking lot of the hotel around 8:30pm. As soon as we pulled into the parking lot, an Indian man tapped on Brad's window. The guy had on every day clothes-nothing that would distinguish him as an employee of the hotel. Brad asked what he wanted and the guy said that he would get Brad a parking spot if we were staying at the hotel, otherwise they charge for parking spots. Brad explained that we are staying so the guy motions for Brad to pull into a spot. Weird-but whatever. So we walked into the hotel lobby and there was NO ONE around, except for the two Indian guys behind the counter (again in every day clothes). Brad checked us in and then asked for a luggage cart. The guy said, "We don't have those." Ooook. So Brad tells me that we are on the second floor and we needed to go find the elevators. We walked and walked and then realized.....there were no elevators. You had to walk up a flight of stairs to get to the second floor!!! So we walked up the stairs and as soon as we got to the top, the worst smell hits us in the face. We don't know exactly what is was, but it seemed to be a mixture of Indian food, body odor, mildew and dirt? We opened the door to our room.....and the air was completely off. It was about 95 degrees in there. Greeeeat. The carpet was so dirty that I refused to take my shoes off. I pulled the comforter on to the floor so I could sit on the bed.....the comforter had TONS of cigarette burns on the under side of it. Gross! I looked to see what time it was.....no clock. Brad then decided to go find the ice dispensor thing out in the hall....couldn't find it....picks up the phone in the room to call the front desk and ask them where the ice dispensor is...the phone doesn't freakin WORK! What the crap?!?!?!? I tried my very best to just suck it up and deal with it, but my hormones combined with the 95 degree heat just couldn't take it anymore. I busted out in tears and told Brad that I would be sleeping in the car before I spent the night in that place! So he went downstairs and demanded a refund. Luckily, we got all of our money back. So we hit the road in search of another room. Brad's brother was staying at a hotel about 10 minutes away so we called them to see if their hotel had any rooms. They had a room for that night only.....beggars can't be choosy, right? So we checked in. As it turned out, some guys were leaving the next day and we were able to get their room for Saturday and Sunday nights. BUT we had to check out of our original room Saturday morning and couldn't check back in to the other room until 8:00pm Saturday night so we hung out with Brad's brother's family all day. WHEW.

So our vacation could have been realllllly bad, but thankfully everything worked out. We went to the Georgia Aquarium on Sunday and had a good time. There were a TON of people there and like I said in an earlier post I'm realllly claustrophobic now so we ended up only staying there about two hours. After we left, I took about a five hour nap at the hotel because I was still exhausted from the football game!

I also started having some lower abdominal pain around Friday that continued (and got a little worse) as the weekend progressed. I assumed it was just round ligament pain from all the stress and walking that we were doing. But this morning I just really wanted to get checked out and make sure that everything was ok. I would rather be the annoying patient that calls about everything that be too mellow about everything and something really be wrong. So I called my doctor's office and they wanted to see me right away-freak the pregnant lady out please! I've gained another pound since I was at the doctor two weeks ago so I've gained a total of 4 pounds now. Looong story short, everything is fine with the baby. The heartrate was 148bpm and the doctor checked to make sure I wasn't dilating and I wasn't. So it was just round ligament pain after all. AND the doctor told me that if I didn't already have an ultrasound scheduled in two weeks, he would have gone ahead and done one today. DANGIT! Oh well, I guess we will just have to wait 16 more days!

UA vs. VT

We won! Not that I paid any attention to the game, whatsoever. This has been a very interesting weekend and I promise to post the details of Friday night as soon as I have the energy to relive it! But for now, I'll fast forward to Saturday! The game didn't start until 8:00pm so we had all day to kill. Well because of the fiasco that was Friday night, we had to check out of our hotel room Saturday by 11:00am and couldn't check back in until late that night....SO we had to hang out in Brad's brother's family's room all day Saturday (thanks Keith and Heaven!!). So we basically laid around all day, which I was more than happy to do knowing what was ahead of me! We eventually headed to the Georgia Dome and had to walk a mile or so to get to it. Not fun. AND our seats were like three rows from the TOP of the dome. So needless to say, by the time we sat down I was pretty much done and ready to go home. My expanding belly (and the precious cargo inside) has made me extremely claustrophobic and that doesn't mesh well with large (drunk) crowds. Anyway, we got to our seats about an hour before the game started. I was SO tired when we finally sat down that I had ZERO interest in watching the game. Almost everyone around me was drunk, loud and cussing like sailors. Not fun. So I played on my cell phone the entire game and tried my VERY best to hold my eyes open.

Brad and I before the game. Do I look tired to you? Dang he's hot.

The pregame show was pretty good though. I love watching the bands march. After each band played a while, both bands got on the field together (spelling VT and UA in case you can't make it out) and they played the National Anthem under the direction of the founder of Chick-fil-A. That was pretty cool.

Baby taking a good nap...wish I could have done the same!

You can't see it, but that's the final score on the board, 34-24. (and a bunch of empty VT seats!)

After the game, we walked the mile out of the dome and the other mile back to our car...in the large drunker crowd...at around midnight....NOT FUN. Can anyone say round ligament pain??? I thought I was dying. The longer we walked, the more I turned into a zombie. Towards the end, I couldn't even feel my legs moving. They were just walking on their own and I was just along for the ride.

So I made the executive decision for baby and me that we probably won't be attending that many games this year. I mean, I'm only 17 weeks now. I can't imagine walking that far and through that crowd as I get bigger. Sacrifices, people, sacrifices.

Post on Friday night and today coming up soon!

17 weeks

Sorry for the poor quality of this picture! It was taken with my camera phone because I left my camera in Tuscaloosa! Boy have we had some interesting things happen while we've been in Atlanta. But that's coming in another post! Here's the baby update:

How far along? 17 weeks
Total weight gain/loss: I haven't weighed myself this week...but I'm sure I've gained!
Maternity clothes? My best friends!
Sleep: My sleep has gotten a lot better. I think I've finally found a good side-sleeping position!
Best moment this week: Possibly feeling the baby move!!
Movement: I only felt it once, I think. But I knew it wasn't gas this time. I'm almost positive it was the baby!
Food cravings: I've been craving salads this week-with really vinegar-y dressing.
Gender: Probably boy.
Labor Signs: Thankfully, none!
Belly button in or out? Mostly in.
What I miss: Being able to go go go all day long.
What I am looking forward to: Finding out the sex of the baby!
Weekly Wisdom: Drink plenty of water. If you don't, your belly will tense up and that hurts!
Milestones: Another week under my belt!

Baby's first Alabama football game is tonight! I hope he/she behaves! Roll Tide!

My bags are packed, I'm ready to go...

Except that my bags aren't packed yet because I fell asleep last night before I could get that done! Brad and I are heading to Atlanta this afternoon to watch the Tide kick some Virginia booty! He's so excited! And I'm all decked out in my Alabama gear today!

The Pasak girls...April, Mom, Me and Kim! (My hair is flat and I look a hot mess in this picture! Sorry!)

And here are some old pictures of Brad and I during football season throughout the years!

This picture was taken in Arkansas, maybe in 2006? When we got to Arkansas, a tornado had just blown through and our hotel was damaged and had no power! So luckily we found another hotel down the interstate that had a room!

This was in 2002 or 2003 I think.

A-Day game in 2007.

Last year in Atlanta.

Bella's first time to get to go tailgating!

2007...I've definitely put on a few baby pounds after looking at this picture!!

Have a safe and happy Labor Day weekend everybody! ROOOOOLLLLLLLLLL TIDE!

Gender Ultrasound Update

So....I'm going crazy. I'm about to POP with anxiety to know what this baby is! My original appointment was at 9am on the 25th. I called my doctor's office and told a liiiiittle white lie (bad Allison, I know) and said that I needed to reschedule my appointment because my husband wouldn't be able to make my original one. Hee hee. I said, "Do you have anything like....the week before??" Sneaky sneaky! So my appointment has been reschuduled to....the freakin day before. 3:30pm on the 24th. Not much of an improvement, but it's a few hours shaved off, right?

Then I have a friend that went up to Virginia College in Birmingham to have an ultrasound done. The techs in training will perform an ultrasound on your for FREE. But...they only perform them during the day on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Birmingham is an hour away from where we live, so that's out.

THEN my very very lovely hair dresser, Rissie, has a friend that works somewhere that performs ultrasounds (a radiology clinic maybe?) so she's going to try her best to get my an appointment soon!

So I'll update as soon as I find out more information!

Our child has bad hair

I went to one of those "What your baby will look like" websites where you submit a picture of yourself and your spouse and it morphs them together to show you what your child will look like...and here she(?) is...

Cute kid, but what's up with that hair??!?! And Brad has dark brown eyes and mine are green sooo....I have no idea where the blue eyes came from! Interesting...
